Partial Dentures

An example of a prosthetic partial denture

A removable partial denture is designed specifically to meet your need of replacing one or more missing teeth. A natural appearance and speech clarity is restored along with the ability to eat more efficiently.

Your specific needs and anatomy will dictate the design of the partial denture. To provide the strongest and longest lasting partial, they are typically custom-made out of metal and acrylic. In some cases, they may be made completely out of acrylic.

Metal partials are generally preferred as they are structurally superior. They are thinner and more hygienic than an acrylic partial. Acrylic partials are typically used as a transitional or temporary partial. Our dentists will consult with you to determine the appropriate partial for your situation.

At Southern Maine Family Dental, we will design your partial denture so that the chewing forces are evenly distributed over the entire surface area of your remaining teeth and soft tissue. Changes to your remaining teeth may be recommended to help equalize these biting forces.

A removable partial denture may help limit the movement of your remaining natural teeth. They also allow you to better chew food which improves digestion. These are just a few of the benefits of a partial denture. Contact us today and schedule your consultation!
